Seeing the playground- Zaria's Story, Sierra Leone

Zaria is 11 years old and lives in Sierra Leone. She was going to school but had always found it hard as she could not read what was on the board.

She was really struggling to learn. Her grades had worsened and if they didn’t improve she may not have been able to continue on at school.

There was nowhere in her town to have her eyes tested. She would have had to travel very far to find the nearest eye clinic and even then, the glasses were too expensive.

Zaria was seen at a Vision Aid Overseas Vision Centre and was given an eye test and a brand new pair of glasses. She was very excited. She said she felt her life had been transformed.

Some people in her town had gone their whole lives without having their eyes tested, now they have a Vision Centre where everyone can have their eyes tested and get the glasses they need to see properly.

People like Manimba work at the Vision Centre helping to provide affordable eye care for the whole community all year round. Vision Aid
Overseas set up the Vision Centre and train and support local eye care workers like Manimba so people have a sustainable eye care service.

Without clear vision children can’t learn to get an education and adults can’t earn to care for their families and contribute to their communities. However, you can make all the difference today by making a donation
