Thanks to our generous supporters, our 2016 Christmas Appeal raised an incredible £25 000 which enabled us to fulfil our promise to Connaught Vision Centre in Sierra Leone.

Last year, Vision Aid Overseas launched a Christmas Appeal to help re-equip Connaught Vision Centre in Freetown, Sierra Leone with urgently needed new optical equipment.

The Vision Centre, which is the only provider of affordable eye care services and glasses for a population of 1.2 million people in the capital, was struggling to provide for thousands of patients every year, due to broken and outworn optical equipment.

Thanks to our generous supporters, the appeal far exceeded its target of raising £13, 365 and went on to raise an amazing £25,000! As promised, the donations raised during the appeal have enabled Vision Aid Overseas to buy and transport the equipment to Sierra Leone where it was installed at Connaught Vision Centre with the help of volunteers Phil Gascoigne and Helen Short (pictured on the left) in September 2017.

Phil Gascoigne, Volunteer:

During our week in Sierra Leone, we were able to support the staff with the installation of the equipment and also with on-going training to Kadie & Rebecca (pictured) who work as dispensers & technicians at the Vision Centre. Kadie, Rebecca and all the staff at the Vision Centre were delighted with the new equipment as it means they can continue to provide affordable spectacles to the people of Freetown. So, on behalf of Connaught Vision Centre and Vision Aid Overseas, thank you so much for supporting eye care in Sierra Leone.

We are very happy to let all our supporters know, that thanks to them the Vision Centre is now fully functioning and is once again able to provide eye tests and glasses to over 12,000 patients each year dependent on the centre for treatment. Thank you for securing the future of Connaught Vision Centre.

This Christmas, Vision Aid Overseas’ mission in Sierra Leone is bigger than ever before and you can help make double the difference! As every £5 you give can turn into £10 between 28th Nov – 5th Dec 2017. To find out more, click here
