In September 2017 I will be travelling to Ghana with Vision Aid Overseas a charity who help children in Africa who can’t see can learn and get an education, and adults who can’t see can earn to support their families and contribute to their communities.

I will be attending Cape Coast University where I will be helping train some of their Optometry students. We will be travelling to remote villages on outreach, to provide eyecare to people have little access to any health care services.

The idea to teach these students how to provide sustainable and affordable eye care in these countries so they can continue to provide this once we leave.

  • 640 million people worldwide can't see properly simply because they need glasses
  • £200 billion worth of productivity is lost every year because so many people do not have the glasses they need to see clearly
  • 80% of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured
  • 13 million children around the world need glasses
  • 90% of people who are visually impaired live in developing countries
  • Women account for two-thirds of the population worldwide who are visually impaired.
