In May 2018 I will be joining a team of 5 optometrists on an outreach programme with the charity Vision Aid Overseas to help provide spectacles and eyecare to remote communities in Ethiopia. I would like to raise as much money as possible for the charity before I go. Any donations to this page would be hugely appreciated!

How many of you wear spectacles or know someone who does? How would you or they work/learn/drive/read/enjoy life without them? Well there are 1.1 BILLION people worldwide who can’t see properly simply because they need spectacles. Vision Aid Overseas works with UK optical professional volunteers to provide eyecare to some of the poorest, rural and marginalised communities in Africa. In addition they now help to provide teaching and training of local eyecare workers and the founding of vision centres to allow future self-sustainable eyecare services. The charity has a mission to enable people living in poverty to access affordable spectacles and eye care. This means children in Africa who can’t see can then learn and get an education, and adults who can’t see can then earn to support their families and contribute to their communities.

The Vision: No one lives in poverty because of poor eyesight; no one lives with poor eyesight because of poverty.
