Jayne Smeaton In February 2018, I will be heading to Ghana alongside a team of other optical professionals on a voluntary assignment with Vision Aid Overseas.

I will be using my skills as an optometrist to offer much needed eye care to those in poorer/ remote areas who haven't got access to it. This includes doing sight tests and dispensing spectacles as well as diagnosing ocular disease which can then be treated. I will also be helping to teach and train the local students and eye care workers so they too can eventually provide this vital eye care within their communities themselves.

In order for me to go on this assignment, I need to fundraise £1,700. The money raised will go towards VAO’s mission to fight poverty by transforming access to eye care and improving the lives of those disadvantaged due to poor eyesight.

To give you an example of what this money can do in Africa.
£5 can pay for an eye test and a pair of glasses.
£22 can pay for a day of eye care training.
£185 could pay for a week’s training for an eye care nurse.

With your donations, I'm hoping that I can achieve this target and make a difference. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Jayne Smeaton
