We can't do this alone. We work in partnership with others to have the greatest impact on the lives of children. And we are grateful to our friends and funders too.

Government of Ethiopia

Vision Aid Overseas only ever works in partnership with countries and communities who have requested our support. We begin all projects by meeting with key groups in our partner countries including the local Ministries of Health and Education to see how to work together to address key issues and challenges. This is to ensure whatever we do supports national plans and policies and community needs.

Support a School is no different. Vision Aid Overseas has a long-standing relationship with the Ethiopian Government which is already enabling adults and children to see more clearly. Now we have signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Ethiopian Federal Ministries of Health and Education and the District Bureaus of Health and Education in East Wollega to help more children see a brighter future.

Essilor UK

Essilor Ltd is partnering with Vision Aid Overseas to bring much needed eye care and glasses into rural classrooms in Ethiopia so that thousands of children can get the eye care they need to see clearly.

A valued partner of the Support a School programme, Essilor, the world leader in ophthalmic optics, has already provided funding enough to bring real change into five primary schools in East Wollega District.

Soon, thanks to Essilor Ltd, 6,718 children will be screened, those in need will receive an eye test and if needed, a pair of glasses to correct their vision.

And Essilor Ltd is not stopping there; its staff have pledged to raise even more funding in the run up to the year of vision 2020, enough to support another two schools. In November 2019, a team of six Essilor colleagues will take part in the Great Ethiopian Run, raising at least £10,000 through sponsorship.

Essilor is a founding partner of the Our Children's Vision global campaign to bring better vision and eye health to millions of children in need.

Exeter Ethiopia Link and the Inclusive Education Project in East Wollega

Vision Aid Overseas works closely with Exeter Ethiopia Link (EEL) and the Inclusive Education Project in East Wollega. EEL is a charity registered in the UK that encourages and supports small but sustainable development projects in Ethiopia. It works with the Inclusive Education Project to ensure that disability rights, including eye health, and special needs education are prioritised in the region. Support a School is informed by some of their research and expertise in the community.

Our Children's Vision

Our Children’s Vision is a movement - it seeks to bring together governments, development agencies, the private sector, eye health practitioners and communities with the goal of screening 50 million children worldwide for vision impairments by 2020 and creating access to appropriate services for those who need them.

Vision Aid Overseas is a proud partner of the campaign and as such we have placed an additional priority and more resources to our work with children in the run up to 2020 and beyond.
