Vision Aid Overseas is very sorry to announce that Optometry Technician, Emmanuel Sao Mohamed, passed away in his home country of Sierra Leone, on Monday 12th June 2017.

Passionate about improving much needed access to eye care services in Sierra Leone, Emmanuel was one of nine students who graduated from the Vision Aid Overseas’ funded Optometry Technician course in the Gambia in July 2016.

Alfred Yambasu, Vision Aid Overseas Country Director for Sierra Leone said:

We are extremely saddened by the recent passing of Emmanuel Sao Mohammed. Emmanuel was a very ambitious and caring person who had a bright future ahead of him. After graduating from The Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Centre (SZRECC) in the Gambia, Emmanuel started his internship working at various eye hospitals in Sierra Leone to get the experience he needed to become a fully qualified Optometry Technician. He was later sent to the Kenema Eye Hospital to continue his internship. It was during this time that he was sadly taken from us. Vision Aid Overseas would like to extend our deepest condolences to Emmanuel’s family and friends. He shall be deeply missed and may his soul rest in peace.
