''In 1985 volunteer optical professionals realised both the responsibility and the privilege they had in being able to visit developing countries and give their skills and expertise, during short term projects, to examine eyes and provide spectacles enabling the poor and needy to see clearly.  That will be the lasting legacy of Vision Aid Overseas.  Since that time huge strides have been made in training local people in simple refraction techniques and in setting up Vision Centres to ensure sustainability.  Continuing support is vital so that Vision Aid Overseas teams can develop in-country links from remote rural areas to the nearest Vision Centre thereby ensuring widespread provision.''
