It is time for the Annual General Meeting of Vision Aid Overseas. This year it will be a little different.

We invite you, our valued Members, to join us online for a virtual AGM at 5pm – 6pm on Friday 6th November 2020. You can register for this event, below.

**Please note: this date has been changed from Saturday 7th November 2020**

Why are things being done differently in 2020?

The coronavirus crisis has meant a challenging year for everyone, both in the UK and in the countries in which we work. We hope you are coping well.

At VAO, we were able to rise to the challenge of securing emergency funding to keep the charity viable, only with your support, thank you. For many months, our critical eye health work was paused in all countries. We know you will be pleased to hear that our projects in Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Zambia are all returning to full capacity as we move from summer to autumn.

Yet there remains much for the charity to cope with day to day - many of our staff in the UK are still furloughed or working reduced hours; all teams are dispersed, mostly working remotely; and there are other, sizable operational changes taking place till the end of this year.

We are proud to have completed our Annual Report and audited accounts for the year, whilst dealing with the many challenges we faced. Not all charities were able to achieve this. We enclose these documents and look forward to presenting this important information to you at the AGM.

Given the status of the pandemic, we want to make sure our meetings are compliant with current UK guidance around socialising and traveling and are as safe as possible. That is why we have made the decision, like many other organisations this year, to host our AGM online.

Though we are committed to hosting the AGM this November, we have made the decision to postpone the usual Members Meeting until a later date. This is because we know how much Members value the chance to meet with each other, and with VAO staff and Trustees, and to take part in lively conversations around eye health and the charity’s role in the world today. This is also the time that we celebrate and applaud those people who have gone the extra mile for VAO in the previous year by presenting our Awards.

We feel that, at this time, we simply can’t offer the quality of this experience in a virtual meeting. We are hopeful of hosting a face to face Members Meeting instead in May 2021. We will keep you informed about this as our plans develop.

By next May too, we expect to launch our new, long term strategy for Vision Aid Overseas. Having a Members Meeting in the Spring provides the opportunity for us to come together and look ahead to the future of the charity we all care about so much. We very much look forward to seeing you face-to-face then.

But in the meantime, please do join us online for the AGM from 5pm – 6pm on Friday 6th November 2020. You can register, below. To attend the AGM you will need access to the internet and an email address.

If you are unable to attend but want to cast your vote, please return the proxy form, available to download below, by email to [email protected] or by post to our registered address.

Yours sincerely,

Nicola Chevis,

Chief Executive Officer
